To say this paint was in rough condition would be an understatement. The only thing we had to our advantage was that there were no really deep scratches or paint defects. Just an excessive amount of light to medium level scratches. We could tell from the get-go that it had seen too many improper washes and dry towel wipes.
We began this detail by foaming up this 80s icon with a thick layer of snow foam. We decided to not use a power wash and resort to the effective hose and two-bucket wash method. This ensured that no damage would occur since there would be no high pressure coming in contact with the paint. We followed the wash by hand-drying the car. In final preparation for compounding, we taped off all areas necessary to prevent damage to the trim and sharp edges.
Stage 1- The Compound
During our first stage we focused on compounding. This cut down the paint's old clear coat to remove the scratches and imperfections. As you can see in the photos, all of those crazy scratches and swirls have been removed but there is still a slight haze and small "love marks" leftover from the compound.
Stage 2- The polish
We followed up the compounding stage with an intense level of polishing. This helped restore that deep gloss and remove any little marks or haze left over from the compounding process. This step was definitely the most challenging because the paint was very soft, which means it could be corrected easily, but it would also get scratched easily, so it was difficult to get it looking, as we say, "Pristine." We had try to out 4-5 different combinations of pads and polishes before we found the right fit.
Before and After Photos
The Finished Product
This customer brought us his 2010 Mercedes Benz C300 to undergo an intensive two stage paint correction and Nano-Ceramic coating paint protection package. Our goal for this detail was to restore the tattered paint and bring back its gloss.
Step 1- Wheel cleanse
After thoroughly washing the exterior we pulled the wheels off to properly wash, clay, decontaminate, and apply two layers of Ceramic Pro. As you can see in the before picture, many areas had caked up dirt behind the spokes. This is an essential part in our detail process to ensure the whole we is cleaned before applying any type of protection layer.
Part 2- Paint correction (stage 1)
As you can see in the picture, the paint was filled with swirls, scratches, and many other paint defects. After a few passes with our compound we were able to remove a majority of the oxidation and swirls. One thing that was apparent with this Mercedes paint was that the clear-coat was very hard.
Part 3-Paint correction (Stage 2)
This step took much patience but was well worth the invested time. The bumpers needed extra attention and we gave it just that. We achieved an increased level of gloss throughout the second step to finalize our paint correction process.
It was time to make this Benz shine like never before. We began by applying Ceramic Pro 9H which bonded to the paint to create a hardened for protection. After covering every inch we added a thick layer of Ceramic Pr Light to further enhance the gloss level on this rich black paint.
Finished! After many hours of intensive correction and patience this black beauty was looking better than ever.
